If you’d like to support the podcast and all the work that I do then you can! Just head on over to patreon.com/comealongfortheridepodcast and sign up. From as little as a cup of coffee a month, you can help me keep this podcast going. There are many tiers that you can choose from and if everyone who listens gave only $5 per month, it would make a massive positive difference to me. There is a tier in there for a small business subscription just like the one Peter Papp took up from Peter and the Herd, this is the one where your business gets a mention each week on the podcast. Peter works with equine behaviour and trauma recovery. Equine communication. Human and horse relationship building. Peter has had communication with my mare Gypsy, who is the mare with me in the podcast picture and he was spot on about everything so I can highly recommend his work personally. I’d like to say a big thanks to our latest Patreon subscriber, Julia Tonkin, Julz you are a champion, thanks so much for your support.
In this episode I speak with Paul Szauter and Paul is not a horse person! Paul is a scientist. He is actually the Chief Scientific Officer of EquiSec who are one of the few places in the world you can test your horse for PSSM2.
Recently I was made aware of a disease called PSSM1 in a friends horse, as she is my horse, Gypsy’s half-sister I got her tested as well as she was exhibiting some of the symptoms. Gypsy came back negative but as I am who I am and I do what I do, then my interest was peaked. And this happened because as I asked more and more people about PSSM1 I realised there was little to no awareness of this condition. So I decided to find someone who did have knowledge. This is how I came across Paul and his work.
Most of the podcasts that I do are of value to share as they can support changes to training and handling of horses all over the world. This podcast is one of the most important ones for you to share as every single horse person in the world needs to be made aware of this disease and if you are ever buying a horse, this test needs to be done if your breed is on the long list that is knows to have had the disease. Together we can make a difference by talking about it with other horse owners and understanding the symptoms to look out for. This is especially important for trainers to be aware of as the gait abnormalities is something they will easily see when working with PSSM2 horses.
So have a listen to the podcast, take it all in, and then please share and open our horse world up to PSSM 1 and 2 and let’s make a positive difference to the lives of horses.
